As we wrap up the year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are as excited as I am about the upcoming year.
Kristin Ostrander discusses the importance of setting and achieving personal goals. She provides a downloadable worksheet to aid listeners in reflecting on their aspirations for the upcoming year. Ostrander emphasizes the significance of small steps, like 15-minute tasks, in achieving larger goals. She shares her personal experiences and encourages listeners to face their fears and focus on goals that excite them. She also suggests creating a chart covering areas of improvement and setting SMART goals. This episode is a blend of personal reflection and practical goal-setting advice.
A Year in Review
It's amazing how quickly time flies, isn't it? As we approach 2024, I encourage you to join me in reflecting on the past year. What were the highlights? What were the challenges? What did we learn? It's important to take stock of these moments, but equally important to look forward and envision what we want the next year to look like.
To assist you in this process, I've created a downloadable worksheet that will guide you through reflecting on your goals and aspirations for the upcoming year. This episode is a bit different from our usual ones, focusing more on personal reflection rather than practical goal-setting. Remember, there are no right or wrong answers. This worksheet is a tool for you to revisit throughout the year.
Prioritizing Goals in a Busy Life
We all know life can be hectic. Despite this, I urge you to carve out some time for yourself to think about what you want to achieve in 2024. You don't need to have every detail figured out, but taking steps towards building the life you want is crucial.
Consider different areas of your life such as family, finances, physical health, personal growth, and spirituality. What goals nag you the most? What can you control? Prioritizing these goals and understanding what truly matters to you is the first step towards achieving them.
The Power of 15-Minute Hustles
One of the strategies I've found most effective is accomplishing goals through 15-minute hustles. Even small actions, like a 15-minute walk or yoga session, can lead to significant results and a sense of accomplishment. Focus on easy goals that provide a reward system and a feeling of progress. Break tasks into 15-minute increments and utilize shortcuts, like finding quick recipes on Pinterest.
Choosing Goals That Bring Pride and Have Permanent Results
Choose goals that will make you feel proud and have lasting impacts. Whether it's learning something new, spending more time with loved ones, or finally reading that book you've been putting off, these goals can significantly improve your self-esteem. Goals related to health and education can have lasting impacts.
I can personally attest to this. Participating in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program had a permanent impact on my life. Despite my initial resistance, I found the program transformative. I encourage you to identify goals with permanent results and consider how they will impact your future in 5 or 10 years.
Aligning Goals with Core Values
It's essential to align your goals with your core values and focus on what truly matters to you. Remember, you can only control your own actions. Choose goals that are within your control. Facing the unknown head-on can lead to significant personal growth.
Facing Our Fears and Focusing on Goals That Excite Us
Sometimes, the things we fear the most are what's best for us. Identify the goals that cause you the most fear and those that make you most excited. Prioritize these goals and be honest with yourself about why you want to achieve them.
Don't feel pressured to fix everything at once. Acknowledge your feelings and focus on what excites you. Set realistic goals that fit into your current life and schedule. By doing so, you can take control of your efforts and enjoy the results.
Organizing Goals
To help with goal organization, I suggest creating a chart that covers the four areas you want to improve. This can assist in setting SMART goals and creating task lists. However, understanding what's most important to you is crucial before diving into goal-setting.
Remember, it's okay to have multiple goals and work on them simultaneously. For example, you might be working on both health and business goals at the same time. Reflect on how each choice will impact your future and present, and embrace your journey.
As we move into 2024, I encourage you to reflect, set goals, and take control of your future. Here's to a year of growth, accomplishment, and happiness!
