I’d like to share my story:
I have been an entrepreneur all my life; starting at a young age, in a family with a limited budget, there wasn’t much money. I decided there were things I wanted and places I wanted to go. I started coming up with ways to earn money for those adventures. I have always had an eye for a good deal and I was perpetually looking to stretch my dollars as far as they would go.
I ate cheapest lunch at school and saved the remainder of my lunch money. I did a lot of babysitting. My dad would give us money for school clothes; I’d shop clearance and save the rest. I asked to help others do chores and split the money. I ordered water when my all my friends drank soda. Getting the most for my money is ingrained in me.
As soon as I was old enough, I got a real job. I worked at a few fast food restaurants and a laundromat. I was a saver and managed my money well. When I started driver’s training my dad told me he would match me dollar for dollar for the purchase of a car. I saved almost $2000 and drove to school on my 16th birthday in the car I bought with cash.
Fast forward several years, I met my husband at the laundromat where I worked in high school. We fell in love and married when I was 19. Our early years were a struggle because we didn’t have much but we had each other. To our surprise, my son was on the way a few months later and baby number two followed a few years after. With my husband in commercial construction, it was always feast or famine. My specialty for living simply and making dollars stretch was the key to our survival.
eBay entered my life in 2003. I have always been a thrift shopper and a garage saler, constantly trying to get the best deals on any purchase I made. When I heard about eBay I knew it would be a perfect fit. I started selling my children’s outgrown clothing and toys on eBay and I was successful. I began looking for other things to sell to bring in extra income. I began sourcing at the dollar store, back before there were smartphones to look everything up. I found brand name exercise DVDs and sold them for $15 each. I went to every dollar store for miles and miles until they were all gone. I was hooked and haven’t looked back. I started researching popular toys and children’s items that regularly sold well and scoured garage sales, thrift shops and clearance racks. I sold on eBay for 6 years and then I discovered something new…
Amazon entered my life in 2009. I discovered that Amazon was allowing people to sell on their platform as a third party seller. I researched and realized I could sell used books without storing them at home. They had a program called Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) and I could put a sticker on the books, box them all up in the same shipment and send them to an Amazon warehouse. When I made a sale, Amazon shipped the item for me and I got paid. No pictures to take, no daily shipping to do….what a change from eBay. I was hooked again!
Since 2009 I have been selling on Amazon FBA. I purchase my inventory from retail stores, online sites and wholesale sources. I still sell on Ebay as part of my multiple income stream strategy, but it is 90% outsourced.
Although Amazon is how I earn the majority of my income, my main passion is to counsel and mentor others on how to take their business to the next level. I’ve worked with retail business owners, multi-level marketing sellers (Mary Kay, Avon, Jamberry, consignment shop owners, and hundreds of online entrepreneurs who desire a little extra attention to get them moving in the right direction.
I have experienced seven busy Q4’s (fourth quarter selling season from October-December), think Black Friday buyer frenzy) and have more than doubled my sales each year. In 2014 I did five times my sales from 2013. In 2015, sales raised to a very healthy 6 figures. I am here to help you take your business to new heights whether you are a beginner or a seasoned business owner who is stuck in a rut.
